What’s the placement?

We are looking for the next generation of Scientists to join us for a year in industry. The placement is for undergraduates who will work within our Research and Development team as Assistant Scientists and Assistant Applications Development Scientists, based in Malvern, Worcestershire.

The Research and Development department consists of over two hundred Scientists and Engineers covering all STEM disciplines. We work closely together in cross discipline teams following agile methodologies with a focus on customer centric design. Our use of ground-breaking technologies and culture of innovation continue to contribute to the company’s success and growth.

Where you’ll work:

Our Malvern site holds up to 400 colleagues and is a hub for innovation in the UK. Based underneath the Malvern hills, there are also lots of facilities with an onsite restaurant and plenty of space for collaboration with colleagues.

Is this placement for me?

This placement would be great for anyone studying related Physics, Chemistry and Natural Science Degrees. We are looking for someone who has always had a passion for everything about STEM.

During the placement you will support the development team with the amazing work that they do, in addition to this you will have the opportunity to be responsible for an individual project to be completed whilst you are with us.

Assistant Development Scientist (Physics Undergraduate, Pure or Combined),

Scouting for new photonics technology

Assisting in the practical and theoretical assessment of devices to incorporate outsourced capabilities into our own methods and designs.

Assistant Applications Development Scientist (Physics/Natural Science/Chemistry),

Innovative materials characterisation technology: high finesse nanoparticle dispersion development

Development of high finesse nanoparticle dispersions with applicability to a very wide range of fields such as pharmaceutical discovery, development and scale-up as part of a multi-centre, disruptive innovation project.

Assistant Development Scientist (Physics/Natural Science),

Innovative materials characterisation technology: viability and early research-phase assessment

You will be involved in the assessment and development of new cutting-edge technologies and their application to 21st century material characterisation challenges in a range of fields including pharmaceutical development and advanced materials.

You will be considered for all the placement roles above but if you have a strong interest in any of the projects or particular areas, please let us know through the application and interview process.

What you need to know:

This is a full-time position with a working pattern of 37.5 hours, Monday to Friday. Although we also have options to flex this.

You will need to be available and ready to start with us on 4th July 2022 and be able to commit to stay with us until 28th July 2023

You will receive lots of benefits from being part of our team but of course you will need some time away, so we provide you with 25 days paid holiday per annum + UK bank holidays

You will be paid an annual salary of £18,000

As part of your role, we also ask the year in industry placement students to be STEM Ambassadors for the company, lead on STEM activities and represent Malvern Panalytical at STEM events throughout the year.

You must be able to provide relevant documentation to demonstrate your right to work in the UK and/or hold the appropriate Work / Student Visa to allow work placements. We are unable to sponsor Visa applications for the year in industry roles.
