Year in Industry Placement
About this position:
We are looking for ambitious Year in Industry students to join our Development team in Malvern, Worcestershire for a one-year placement, starting Summer 2020. We have a wide range of roles on offer and are looking for bright students with a STEM background and a desire to be challenged. You must be a self-starter and a good team player with excellent communication skills.
Environment and Hours
• Based at our headquarters in Malvern, Worcestershire
• 37.5 hours per week
• 1-year placement starting July 2020
• 23 days’ paid holiday + UK bank holidays
• Salary of £18,000 per annum
During the placement you will be part of a development team and help with ongoing project work. In addition to this you will be assigned an individual project to be completed over the year with us.
Alongside the other Year in Industry students, you will also be a STEM Ambassador for the company, lead on STEM activities and represent Malvern Panalytical at STEM events throughout the year.
2020-21 Projects Include:
- Assistant Electronics Engineer (2 Roles available)
Assisting in the development of new electronics capabilities which could be used to enhance the performance of our scientific instruments.
- Assistant Scientist (Chemistry), Advanced method development for particle characterisation
High finesse method development to provide scientific understanding and machine learning training data for a disruptive innovation.
- Assistant Scientist/Engineer, Analysis and data interpretation methods
Investigating and implementing new techniques and approaches for assessing stability of nanomaterials.
- Assistant Software Engineer, Improving the software build infrastructure
Investigating and implementing new techniques, approaches or technologies to improve the automated software build infrastructure, to speed up release times and reduce defects.
- Assistant Scientist/Engineer, Towards Industry 4.0 Optical Digital Twin
Developing underlying physical understanding, tools and simulation methods to provide a predictive specification of a crucial light scattering component.
- Assistant Engineer/Scientist, Morphologi Auto-Measure mode development
Investigate, prototype and evaluate new methods, algorithms, and/or hardware to automate multiple steps in the imaging and spectroscopy of microscopic particles.
- Assistant Application Development Scientist (Physics/Natural Science/Chemistry), Effect of laser wavelengths on sample imaging
Assessing the effect of laser wavelength on the concentration accuracy of materials showing Surface Plasmon Resonance and evaluation of variable laser power on fluorescence particle imaging and tracking capability.
In addition, we have two more roles which are being advertised separately as they are more specialised roles and have additional requirements:
- Assistant Technical Author, Creating innovative content
Creating innovative user assistance and learning content to help customers realise the full value potential of our solutions.
- Assistant Data Scientist, based in Bristol, Advanced method development for particle characterisation
Developing new machine learning models to enable advanced particle characterisation. This role is based at our new Data Hub in central Bristol.
