The Role

This role presents an exciting opportunity to an individual with a strong physical characterisation background obtained within a pharmaceutical environment. The Team Leader role at Concept Life Sciences, Bradford is a critical position in the Physical Characterisation operational team with responsibilities including; workload scheduling, line management of a small team of analysts, client communication, technical design and oversight of investigative analysis and method development and validation projects, contribution to marketing material and representing the company at key client/industry events.

You will have the opportunity to;

  • Lead a small team of analysts – supporting them to be at their best, delivering against company goals and facilitating their success against their personal development objectives.
  • Provide technical direction for laboratory-based analytical project work, this may include; discussions with clients, preparation of project plans, technical oversight of analytical work, conducting complex analysis, review of data and presentations to clients. The specific technical areas will be driven by your current expertise as well as your personal development objectives.
  • Retain and develop technical skills and knowledge by maintaining awareness of scientific literature to assist work progression, contribute to scientific strategic service offerings and upskilling junior team members.
  • Contribute to company goals and operate in accordance with our company values.
  • Build excellent customer relationships through regular, proactive communication, high quality assessment and presentation of data against the clients needs.

Sounds great! What we are looking for from you:

  • BSc or higher in an analytical, chemical or related scientific field with demonstrated, relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and lead complex scientific projects ideally within the pharmaceutical field.
  • Practical, extensive experience with physical characterisation techniques including;
    • particle sizing (image and laser diffraction),
    • droplet sizing,
    • specific surface area,
    • XRPD,
    • thermal analysis,
    • dynamic light scattering,
    • nanoparticle tracking analysis,
    • zeta-potential,
    • dynamic vapour sorption.

Please note that practical experience with all of these techniques is not essential. Candidates with hands on, in depth experience with a minimum of three of the techniques listed and theoretical understanding of others would be considered.

  • Demonstrated line management or formal mentorship experience with clear examples of helping others succeed.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve and trouble shoot instrument issues within area of expertise.
  • Experience of working to tight deadlines; a “right first time” approach.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, think and work independently, problem-solve, work in teams and multitask.
  • Able to identify and highlight own training needs, and proactively upskill as well as training and mentoring more junior team members.
  • Strong written and oral communications skills; IT Literate.

Working Hours

  • Full time (37.5hrs per week)
