This year we are looking for ten top year in industry students to join our development teams across the UK for a one-year placement.

This advert is for roles based in Malvern, Worcestershire.

We have a wide range of roles on offer and are looking for bright students with a STEM background. You must be a self-starter, good at teamwork and have great communication skills.

Environment and Hours.  
Based at our headquarters in Malvern, Worcestershire
Full time, 37.5 hours per week with flexi-time
Start date 2nd August 2021
1-year placement ending 29th July 2022
23 days paid holiday + UK bank holidays
Salary, £18,000

During the placement you will be part of a development team and help with the ongoing project work, in addition to this you will be assigned an individual project to be completed over the year with us.

This year’s projects include:

Assistant Scientist (Chemistry/Physics)
Advanced methods for particle characterisation 
Based at our state-of-the-art facility near the Malvern hills you will assist in developing new measurement techniques for particle characterisation as part of a multi-disciplinary, multi-centre industrial research project. Using our portfolio of instruments, you will produce and analyse particulate samples and help develop rigorous, high finesse data and data analysis and sample performance metrics.

Assistant Development/Data Scientist (Physics/Natural Science/Chemistry/Data Science)

Powder properties and process success, 
Work closely with customers involved in processes using powders such as additive manufacturing or pharmaceutical tabletting to develop prototype solutions, that improve process outcomes, involving data science and machine learning alongside the deployment of hardware prototypes which requires the understanding of optics, sensor technology, lasers and systems integration. The successful candidate will be able to shape what role they have within the work according to their interests and strengths.

Assistant Applications Development Scientist (Biology/Chemistry/Natural Sciences)
Utilising Zetasizers versatility in the drug delivery application space 
Investigating how multiple light scattering based techniques on one platform can be used together to better characterise and understand drug delivery vehicles.

Assistant Application Development Scientist (Physics/Natural Science/Chemistry)
Investigate variation in concentration measurements of nanomaterials.
Assessing the root cause of the nano-particles concentration variation during in flow particle tracking measurements.

Assistant Development Scientist (Physics/Engineering)

Investigation of Opto-Mechanical Designs 
Investigating early development prototypes and characterisation jigs for a critical optical sub-component underpinning our products, with added opportunities to build-in machine learning to ameliorate for instabilities.

Assistant Data Scientist x 3  based in Bristol
Developing new machine learning models to enable advanced particle characterisation. This team is based at our Data Hub in central Bristol.
In normal times we would invite candidates to our Malvern site for an interview and a tour of our facilities but depending on the restrictions it is likely that the interviews will need to be done remotely this year.

As part of your role we also ask the year in industry placement students to be STEM Ambassadors for the company, lead on STEM activities and represent Malvern Panalytical at STEM events throughout the year.

Since March much of the R&D team have been working from home for part or all of their time and we expect this flexibility to continue once the Covid restrictions have eased. 
Depending on the role there may be the option to work from home for part of the placement, but we would still expect you to be based with-in driving distance of the office and available to attend at short notice if needed. Some roles will require lab work and more time in the office than others, please discuss this during the interview process.
